  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER FROM A TYMPANOMASTOIDECTOMY? 

Most people are able to go back to work or their normal routine in about 1 to 2 weeks. But if your job requires strenuous activity or heavy lifting, you may need to take up to 4 weeks off. 

  • IS TYMPANOMASTOIDECTOMY A MAJOR SURGERY? 

Tympanomastoidectomy procedure is performed in a hospital setting under general anesthesia and typically takes several hours. During the tympanomastoidectomy, incisions are made inside and behind the infected ear. The middle ear and mastoid bone are opened and the infected tissue or the cholesteatoma is removed 

  • WHAT CAUSES TYMPANOMASTOIDECTOMY? 

A canal-wall-down mastoidectomy or tympanomastoidectomy is performed when the disease has damaged your ear canal beyond repair or when the removal of your ear canal is required for the complete removal of disease. 

  • HOW LONG IS A TYMPANOMASTOIDECTOMY SURGERY? 

The surgery will take about 1 to 4 hours. You will have ointment or gauze in your ear canal. Your doctor will take this out. You may have strips of tape or a bandage over the incision behind your ear.
