Biography

Dr. Jamal Kassouma is a distinguished best otolaryngologist in Dubai with over three decades of experience in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery. His journey began at Aleppo University, where he graduated in 1981, laying the foundation for a career marked by innovation, dedication, and service to his community. After completing his surgical training in Damascus, he sought to further refine his skills, embarking on a high surgical training program in the prestigious Manchester Deanery Rotation from 1991 to 1998. Dr. Jamal’s career took a significant turn when he moved to Bradford, UK, to gain specialized experience in cochlear implant surgery. This expertise led him to become a consultant by 2001, but his vision extended far beyond personal achievement. Driven by a desire to make a profound impact in his homeland, Dr. Jamal returned to Syria in 2002, where he introduced cochlear implant surgery to the country. His landmark achievement came on May 5, 2002, when he performed Syria’s first-ever cochlear implant surgery, marking the beginning of a new era for the deaf community in the region. Upon his return to Syria, Dr. Jamal joined the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University as a professor. His role was not just as a surgeon but as an educator and mentor dedicated to advancing the field of ENT surgery. Over the years, he has trained over ten surgeons from Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and Sudan, extending his expertise across the Middle East. His influence in medical education has ensured that his knowledge and skills continue to benefit communities far beyond his immediate reach as a renowned otorhinolaryngologist in Dubai, In 2012, Dr. Jamal relocated to the United Arab Emirates, where he continued his inventive work as a consultant at Dubai Hospital. His contributions in the UAE have been remarkable, performing around 700 cochlear implant surgeries and several Bone Conduction Hearing Implant surgeries across Dubai and Al Zahra Hospital. In December 2016, he joined Al Zahra Private Hospital Dubai full-time, where he remains committed to his mission of restoring hearing and improving lives. Throughout his career, Dr. Jamal has performed over 10,000 complex ear surgeries, a testament to his skill and dedication. His passion for reducing the stigma associated with hearing aids and cochlear implants is evident in his tireless work. As a responsible and empathetic otolaryngologist in Dubai, he believes that patients who use these devices are empowered and deserve equal recognition as full members of society.
